The Austin Regional Group of Sierra Club has endorsed Chris Riley for Austin City Council Place 1, in recognition of his decades-long work on environmental issues here in Austin. “Chris simply has a longer history of environmental stewardship here in Austin,” stated Karin Ascot, Sierra Club’s Political Chair, citing his record of practicing these values in his everyday life.

The Circle C Area Democrats announced their endorsement today of Chris Riley for Austin City Council Place 1, adding to the many diverse groups that are supporting Riley’s campaign. Club President Ed Scruggs said that members found Riley to have an excellent command of the issues impacting southwest Austin.

Chris Riley continued to pick up endorsements this week, garnering the endorsement of the West Austin Democrats on Wednesday. By a ratio of roughly 3-1, one of Austin’s longest-running Democratic clubs voted in favor of Riley for Place 1.

Last night, Chris Riley was endorsed by three more local Democratic groups, demonstrating the broadening support behind his campaign for Austin City Council Place 1. At a joint forum, members of the Capital City Young Democrats, Capital Area Asian American Democrats, and Texas Environmental Democrats all voted to endorse Riley.

On Monday, March 9, Chris Riley won the endorsements of two Austin-area political groups, the Austin Lesbian/Gay Political Caucus and Stonewall Democrats of Austin. “I am honored to receive the endorsements of two groups that are working towards the next major social change of our lifetime,” stated Riley.

The Austin Police Association and Austin/Travis County EMS Employees Association today announced their endorsements of Chris Riley, candidate for Austin City Council Place 1.

Every day on the campaign trail brings new adventures. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve ridden in two firetrucks, a police car, an ambulance, a garbage truck, and APD’s downtown bicycle patrol. I’ve enjoyed them all, and really appreciated spending time with the men and women serving our city. Last Wednesday morning brought another highlight: I watched as one of our single-stream recycling trucks dumped its load into a trailer, to be hauled off to San Antonio for processing.

This past Sunday, volunteers from across Austin came out to help the Chris Riley Campaign spread our message of practical solutions to serious problems. Folks are pitching in to help plan events, distribute yard signs, and tell voters about why they support Chris Riley for Place 1. Now it’s your turn to get involved this weekend. To bring Chris Riley’s vision for Austin’s future to City Hall, we need spirited volunteers to lend your energy, creativity, and enthusiasm to our campaign.

Transportation in Austin took a big step forward today with the grand unveiling of the Plaza Saltillo stop on Capital Metro’s new Red Line MetroRail. The Red Line is a commuter line that will make it more affordable, sustainable, and enjoyable for Austinites and those in the area to get to work, and take part in all of the fun and excitement in our city. The line officially begins running on March 30.

My campaign is already working hard to share our message of practical solutions to serious problems. This past weekend, volunteers placed over 220 yard signs across our city, demonstrating the solid base of support my candidacy has already received. I jumped into the act as well, helping to distribute signs across several South Austin neighborhoods. It was great to run into old friends and new supporters along the way, hear their concerns, and discuss how city government can better serve all of our needs. I look forward to hearing your ideas too, and discussing how we can all pitch in to move Austin forward, together.

We all have ideas about how to help Austin, and we all have issues that we think need to be addressed. As a member of your City Council, I will be open and responsive to your concerns.
