West Austin Democrats Endorse Chris Riley

Chris Riley continued to pick up endorsements this week, garnering the endorsement of the West Austin Democrats on Wednesday. By a ratio of roughly 3-1, one of Austin’s longest-running Democratic clubs voted in favor of Riley for Place 1. “I feel especially gratified by this endorsement, because I grew up in West Austin, and I’ve known many highly-respected members of this club for many years,” stated Riley, citing supporters such as Frank Cooksey, Ginny Agnew, Chuck Herring, Suzy Reid, and Hunter Ellinger, who turned out to speak in support of Riley on Wednesday.

Prior to their decision, the club sent a written question to each candidate, asking specifically for their views on how the candidates would support and expand public transportation. Chris answered in detail about his strong advocacy for increased transit options here in Austin, specifically his work to co-found the Alliance for Public Transportation and Austin CarShare, as well as his plans to grow our rail infrastructure:

I support moving ahead with work on the Green Line (or “sausage link”) out to Manor and Elgin, and will work to secure federal stimulus money and state funding for this project. The Green Line will relieve traffic on 290 immediately, create 5,000 jobs, and cost less than $200 million, which is a sensible investment compared with the cost of other transportation infrastructure.

Folks in the area can join the Chris Riley Campaign for a house party in West Austin this Sunday from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at 3402 Bonnie Road. Please click here for more information.
