Riley Picks Up Three More Endorsements, Broadens Support
Last night, Chris Riley was endorsed by three more local Democratic groups, demonstrating the broadening support behind his campaign for Austin City Council Place 1. At a joint forum, members of the Capital City Young Democrats, Capital Area Asian American Democrats, and Texas Environmental Democrats all voted to endorse Riley. “I’m honored to receive the endorsement of such diverse groups of Democratic activists,” stated Riley. “I will be your advocate on our City Council, and will work to achieve progress on the issues that concern all of us: economic recovery, environmental responsibility, public transportation, and affordable housing.”
Riley cited the endorsements as a sign of the growing base of support behind his campaign, demonstrating the resonance his candidacy has with groups and voters across Austin. Eugenia Beh, a member of both CCYD and CAAAD, said she was excited that Riley earned both groups’ endorsements. “I am looking forward to seeing Chris implement his plans to improve Austin’s public transportation system and make Austin a truly accessible city once he is elected as a councilmember,” Beh said.
Members also cited Riley’s history of innovative, practical solutions to the serious challenges facing Austin, particularly his work in founding Austin CarShare. “It’s this kind of creative thinking in our city council that will move Austin away from unsustainable transportation and utilities policies and make Austin a national leader in environmentally friendly, self-sustaining, and responsible growth,” stated Paul Rhea, an officer in CCYD.
Riley impressed members of all clubs during the united endorsement forum with his specific answers to questions on issues ranging from job creation to clean energy technologies. He stated, “I look forward to continuing this process and engaging in these community forums, so that the voters of Austin can decide for themselves who is the more experienced and knowledgeable candidate for Place 1.”
